Study: Saved...From What?

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast."  Ephesian 2:8-9

When a Christian says, "I am saved", he is saying that because of God's grace towards Him, through his faith in God's Son, Jesus Christ, his name has been written in Jesus' Book of Life. Jesus has saved him from the Lake of Fire, which is the ultimate destination of unbelievers. Baptized believers in Jesus Christ are saved from the lake of fire.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.John 3:16-17

Jesus saves us from the Lake of fire and from everlasting torment away from God.

Believe the Gospel The Gospel is the "good news" that Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross, that He was buried, and on the third day, He was raised back to life. Those who believe the gospel and are baptized are saved.

Those whose names are written in Jesus' Book of Life are saved:
Philippians 4:3
Revelation 3:5
Revelation 20:11-15
Revelation 21:27

Those whose names are not written in Jesus Book of life will be tossed into the Lake of Fire:
Revelation 14:9-12
Revelation 20:11-15

Mark 9:48-49

God loves us and does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9 and Ezekiel 18:32).  He sent Jesus Christ as THE WAY to have forgiveness for sins, be saved, and have eternal life in Heaven.
