Study: Baptism

As John the Baptist was about to baptize Jesus, Jesus referred to baptism as an act that fulfills righteousness (Matthew 3:13-15).  Though He was sinless, Jesus was baptized to be an example for us to follow.

In John 3:5-7. Jesus said,
"I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again."

Read Matthew 28:16-19. What did Jesus command His disciples to do to new converts?

Read Acts 2:38-41. What two things did the apostles tell the people to do to be saved?

Read Acts Chapter 8: 26-40. Philip explains the gospel to the Ethiopian and he is baptized.

Read Acts 9:1-19. Paul, the Apostle is baptized.

Read Acts 16:13-15 about the baptism of Lydia.

Read Acts 16:22-33 about the baptism of the Jailer.

Believe in Jesus and be baptized. Read Acts 19:1-5.

Read Romans, Chapter 6: 1-4. The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ is acknowledged in the act of baptism. The person goes down into the water (the old person is dead and buried), and then comes up out of the water a new person (rising from the dead and born again, in Christ).

Be baptized for the remission (the washing away) of your past sins, and begin your new life as a follower of Jesus Christ, God's Son.
